Hillary escapes filegate suits, 13 years later

A federal judge has dismissed Hillary Clinton as a defendant in lawsuits filed some 13 years ago over a scandal once known as "filegate."

U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth issued the order on Thursday dismissing Clinton from the suits and refusing to allow the "busy Cabinet Secretary"  to be deposed in the litigation.

Filegate involved the acquisition of hundreds of FBI background reports by a security official at the White House, Craig Livingstone. In addition to then-current White House staffers, Livingstone also managed to get reports on former White House officials under President George H.W. Bush.

A criminal investigation by the Whitewater independent counsel, Kenneth Starr, found no wrongdoing on the part of Clinton. The wikipedia entry for what the former first lady reportedly called a "pseudoscandal" can be found here.
