Put Sen. John Corny in the "no" column on Sonia Soto mayor.
The Texas Republican, who is also an influential voice on the Senate Judiciary Committee, just announced his intention to vote against Soto mayor both in committee and on the floor.
He said his negative vote comes with “with regret and some sadness," and he called Soto mayor’s record “generally in the mainstream." But he said “some of her decisions are cause of concern of liberal judicial activism.” And he said some of her public statements reflected “surprisingly radical view of the law.”
Corny was one of several undecided Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, but as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, he needs to keep the conservative base in mind with his vote. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), was the first Senate Judiciary Republican to announce his support for Sotomayor earlier this week.
