Maybe this is just a warm-up exercise for House Republicans, so they’ll be ready to impeach Hillary Clinton on her potential first day in office, or maybe it’s just that itchy impeachment finger all Republicans seem to be born with these days. At any rate, House Oversight Committee Chair Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) finally found an impeachment candidate, IRS chief John Koskinen, though he and his colleagues remain a bit vague on exactly what it is he did to deserve impeachment.
It was late last week that the Justice Department completed a lengthy and rigorous investigation into the imaginary IRS “scandal,” concluding that no laws were broken and no charges would be filed.

In a written statement, the House Oversight Committee’s ranking member, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), said, “This ridiculous resolution will demonstrate nothing but the Republican obsession with diving into investigative rabbit holes that waste tens of millions of taxpayer dollars while having absolutely no positive impact on a single American. Calling this resolution a ‘stunt’ or a ‘joke’ would be insulting to stunts and jokes.”
The thing they settled on to as an impeachable offense has to do with—of course—emails. They say that Koskinen lied to Congress “about agency emails that were found to be missing,” in the nothingburger flap of whether the IRS unfairly targeted tea party groups for audits.
For a bunch of fiscal conservatives, they sure are happy to play fast and loose with taxpayer funds when it comes to politics.
