Chelsea Manning shared a photo of herself a day after being released from prison Wednesday.
Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2013 for providing WikiLeaks with a massive amount of sensitive government documents. She was heralded as a heroic whistle-blower by some and a traitor by others.
That same year, Manning came out as transgender and shared with the world that she identified as a woman named Chelsea, “request[ing] that … you refer to me by my new name and use the feminine pronoun.”
