Senate Democrats will pit Trump against ‘mean’ Republicans on Trumpcare

Campaign Action

Popular vote loser Donald Trump has promised that the Senate Trumpcare bill will be “generous, kind, with heart.” That’s after he called the House version of the bill “mean.” Now that word is out that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and team might cut Medicaid even more deeply than the House bill did, we can either assume that they don’t give a shit what Trump thinks, or they’re lying to him about their bill.

Either way, Democrats are going to use it, because the bill is horribly mean and because using Trump against McConnell makes sense.

[A] senior Democratic aide said the party plans to revive the “mean” comment part of floor speeches, press conferences and social media, and consultants said they craved the image of Trump celebrating in the Rose Garden with House members over a “mean” bill that hurt poor Americans.
“We will

weaving mean into the broader attack in a prominent way,” the aide said.

Trump has reportedly “been stung by the non-stop negative news coverage of the House bill, particularly reports that more than 20 million people or more could lose insurance.” Trump, not being the sharpest when it comes to actual policy, is going to be in for a big surprise when he finds out that there isn’t any way to repeal Obamacare that doesn’t end up with more than 20 million people losing insurance—or at least, not any way that Republicans would do it.
