Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s longtime attorney, is planning to replace his legal team, a person familiar with the situation said on Wednesday.
The person said Cohen, who was the subject of FBI raids in April following a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, plans to move to a legal team with experience in the Southern District of New York.
Cohen’s legal team has been trying to wrap up a fight over materials seized from his home and office in the raids. A court-appointed special master has been digging through the records to determine whether any should be protected under attorney-client privilege.
The investigation into Cohen encompasses potential fraud charges, as well as his role in arranging a $130,000 payment before the 2016 election to the adult-film actress Stormy Daniels in an apparent bid to get her to remain silent about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump a decade earlier.
was not immediately clear why Cohen was looking for new representation, which sometimes happens for financial reasons or because of a change in legal strategy.
